Evolution of American Jazz Piano

(Broadcast live from Ashokan Sept 12, 2021) Musician and educator Alan Palmer shares an interactive history of American Jazz piano as only he can tell it. From early Thelonius Monk, Bud Powell, and Art Tatum to saxophonist/composer/bandleader Jackie McLean (who’s life and music informed Palmer‘s musical upbringing), Palmer traces the evolution as it touched his own life experiences. As he brings to life the living rooms, packed Jazz clubs, and grand international concert stages, Palmer’s stories exemplify human connection and creativity, and the value of passing on rich cultural tradition through a very personal form of education.
