Please self-select from our 3-tier registration based on your ability to pay. Thank you for supporting the Ashokan Center, this camp, and each other!

Mary Flower will host this year’s Ashokan Acoustic Guitar Camp! Downbeat Magazine called her, “A world class finger-style guitarist and lap slide player.” As well as being a top-flight performer, Mary has taught at nearly 20 music camps worldwide. She’ll share her skills and techniques in a class on “Fingerpicking Blues and  Rags.”

Pat Donohue is a guitar player’s guitar player. A former member of Prairie Home Companion’s Guys All-Star Shoe Band for 20 years and winner of the National Fingerpicking Championship, Chet Atkins called Pat “one of the greatest finger pickers in the world today.” Pat will be teaching “Blues Guitar Moves” and  “Fingerpicking Styles of my Heroes.”

Mamie Minch is a longtime staple of New York’s acoustic blues scene. The owner of Brooklyn Lutherie, she is a skilled guitar repair person to boot! Her music is a playlist of great, but little known 20’s and 30’s tunes. Her vocals and guitar styles will transport you back in time. Mamie will be teaching “R. L. Burnside Grooves” and “Songs of Mississippi John Hurt.”

Larry Baione is the former chairman of Berklee College of Music guitar department and the author of the “Berklee Practice Method for Guitar.” A master of swing and jazz guitar, Larry really knows how to make this genre accessible for all students. He will be teaching “Swing Rhythm Guitar- Freddie Green Style” and “Playing and Soloing on Swing Standards”

Molly Mason is co-director of Ashokan Music & Dance Camps with husband and musical partner Jay Ungar. A master accompanist, she loves to backup a variety of musical styles from fiddle tunes, to folk songs, to classic country and swing-era standards. In Molly’s class, “Moving Forward With Backup,” she’ll help players of all levels improve their ability to accompany the music they love.

Rebecca Frazier is a genuine “triple threat as a singer, songwriter and flatpicking guitarist.” She teaches worldwide and writes for several bluegrass trade magazines. Her name and musical abilities stand out in the formerly male dominated world of bluegrass flatpickers. Rebecca will be teaching “Flatpicking Fiddle Tunes” and “Songs & Solos for Bluegrass Guitar.”

Victor Lissabet is back at Acoustic Guitar Camp by popular demand. He will bring his love for Old Time Music as well as musical influences from his Cuban and Colombian background and a passion for encouraging beginners of all ages. Victor will be teaching “Cuban Connections” and “Three Chords and the Truth.”

The Ashokan Center builds community through shared experiences in nature, history, music and art. We have hosted traditional Music & Dance Camps at our 385 acre nature preserve for over 40 years. In 2020 we learned how to host them online and in 2021 we began to reimagine how to gather in person once again.

Come join the Ashokan family to celebrate, learn, connect, deepen your music, make new friends, and brighten your day. Our events are open to all folks, all ages and all orientations.

<< Join the camp Facebook Group to connect with people who plan to attend and share photos and memories afterwards!

Thank you to the Martin Foundation for supporting Ashokan Music & Dance Camps.
