Ashokan Kitchen

(Summer Hoot 2025)

Ashokan serves a hot breakfast in the dining hall and BBQ in the food vendor area. Chef Bill seeks helpers to assist set-up, vending, and clean-up work. Early shifts set-up and clean-up breakfast in the dining hall and prep for the BBQ booth, mid-day shifts will be in the vendor area and may include plating food and cashier position, and late shifts will be mostly packing and cleaning up the booth and/or prepping for the next morning. Please be positive, clean and presentable!

Compost & Recycling

In previous years this team has diverted over 100lbs of valuable material that ordinarily would end up in a landfill. Volunteer! PARKING SHIFTS are HALF AS LONG as any other shift! This is a fun active job. You will be welcoming folks to the festival and helping them to park in the right place at the right time. You will be answering questions and helping people get their bearings. We need friendly helpful folks that enjoy communicating with others. Please dress appropriately for the weather & bring water.

Gate/Tickets

(Summer Hoot 2025)

You are the Volunteers who welcome our attendees. What could be more important? Most will be assigned the lower gate beside the barn and main lot, some will be assigned the upper/will-call gate. Responsibilities include check-in of pre-sold tickets, selling tickets at a sliding scale with suggested donation, and keeping the flow of traffic moving. You must be comfortable working with people, quickly handling new cash and credit card sales, handing out programs, putting on wristbands, and answering basic questions about the festival. Because these positions are outside, volunteers should dress appropriately. Bring layers, snacks, and your own water bottle.

Team leader, Tom Lindtveit seeks qualified people with First Aid, EMT or Emergency Room experience. Most often this job entails minor issues but it's best to be prepared for anything. The first Friday and last Sunday shift will be helping to set up and tear down the tent.

Before and after the Hoot there is cleanup and preparation work to be done as Ashokan segues from summer events to the new school year. WE NEED YOUR HELP setting up/tearing down tents, cleaning up the grounds, posting/taking down signs, etc. Additional night(s) of camping offered for those working these shifts.

Instrument Petting Zoo

(Summer Hoot 2025)

Assist kids and adults who would like to touch, hold, and try to play a musical instrument. This area will be set up by the Broom Shop or the Gazebo (exact location TBA) with a few fiddles, guitars, ukuleles, banjo, mandolin, bass, and percussion items owned by Ashokan. Feel free to also byo instruments to share. There may be impromptu jamming here or just folks aimlessly plunking. Anything goes! We just need a few volunteers to help keep the area safe, tidy, and welcoming to all. Please let us know your experience with music and with kids. Thanks!
