Come back this summer for an even deeper dive into Ariles Son Jarocho Camp!
This past Sunday, May 11, families from across the Hudson Valley gathered at the Ashokan Center to celebrate Día de las Familias 2025—a free, bilingual music and arts festival that filled our forests, fields, and pavilions with joy, community, and culture.
Now in its third year, this beloved Mother’s Day weekend tradition continues to grow. With all activities offered in both Spanish and English, the festival created a welcoming space for families of all backgrounds to connect through nature, music, and heritage.
🎨 Festival Highlights Included:
-
Canoeing on Ashokan’s peaceful pond
-
Arts & crafts stations for kids of all ages
-
Free and delicious food from local vendors
-
Interactive dance classes and live music
-
Guided hikes and nature walks through Ashokan’s beautiful trails
-
Bilingual storytelling and family-friendly games at the pavilion
From toddlers dancing to live Son Jarocho bands to parents relaxing by the fire circle, the day was filled with moments of joy, reflection, and community connection. We’re incredibly grateful to all the artists, vendors, volunteers, and families who made this day so special.

If Día de las Familias left you inspired, Ariles Son Jarocho Camp 2025 is your next step. This 4-day immersive experience invites people of all ages and backgrounds to deepen their connection to Son Jarocho, the traditional folk music, song, and dance of Veracruz, Mexico.
Presented in partnership with Son Jarocho NY, the camp brings together master artists from Mexico and the U.S. to teach workshops, share performances, and guide conversations that honor the music’s cultural roots and living legacy.
🌍 What is Son Jarocho?
Born in 17th-century Veracruz, Son Jarocho is a vibrant fusion of African, Indigenous, Spanish, Romani, and Arabic musical traditions. For centuries, it’s been kept alive through fandangos—community gatherings centered on shared music, dance, and storytelling. Though it once faced extinction, today Son Jarocho is thriving in communities across the globe.
Whether you’re a curious beginner or an experienced musician or dancer, Ariles Son Jarocho Camp is a unique opportunity to learn, connect, and celebrate this powerful tradition.
We hope to see many of you back at Ashokan this summer!
