August 23–25: The Summer Hoot returns with eclectic lineup of roots music, dancing, and nature activities for the whole family

Now in its twelfth year, the Summer Hoot music festival will be held Friday, August 23 through Sunday, August 25, 2024. Produced and hosted by folk-roots musicians Ruth Ungar Merenda and Mike Merenda of The Mammals (also known as Mike + Ruthy), this down-to-earth celebration of music, food, nature, and community features exciting local and world-class traveling performers along with family activities, local food and beer vendors, a film screening, and more. The festival will take place at the Ashokan Center, located at 477 Beaverkill Road in Olivebridge, NY.

The Hoot was created for the community and therefore strives to stay accessible to everyone, offering “give what you can” tickets at the door and a family-friendly, welcoming atmosphere where a diverse crowd can enjoy great music together. All profits from the Hoot benefit the Ashokan Center’s non profit 501(c)3 education and land preservation mission.

“Between touring with The Mammals, raising a family, and my work at Ashokan, this festival feels like the highest expression of community-building and good work,” says Ruth Ungar Merenda, who serves the Hoot as event producer, performer, and Ashokan’s director of community events. “It’s a way to share the joy and freedom I was privileged to experience in my own childhood at Ashokan, and keep the party going for generations to come.”

As always, the Hoot strives to be environmentally sustainable, powered entirely by the Ashokan Center’s solar energy and utilizing composting and reusable pint cups to reduce festival waste.
