Creativity thrives when people have places to gather, listen, learn, play, and share with others. It grows when there are people committed to telling the stories of the musicians, traditions, and communities that keep it going.

For years, NYS Music has supported The Ashokan Center, not only through sponsorship but also by helping share the music, people, and experiences that make Ashokan special with audiences across New York State and beyond.

Amplifying the Stories Behind the Music

NYS Music is a nonprofit organization dedicated to independent music and arts journalism across New York State. Through concert and festival coverage, interviews, photography, music history, and more, the organization creates a platform for artists while providing opportunities for writers and photographers to develop their craft.

Their work helps bring attention to the musicians, traditions, and communities that make New York’s music scene vibrant.

Throughout the year, musicians and dancers gather at The Ashokan Center to learn from one another, pass traditions between generations, explore their creativity, and experience the simple joy of making music together. Our camps, concerts, festivals, workshops, and community events create spaces where creativity and connection can continue to grow.

NYS Music helps extend those experiences beyond our campus by documenting performances, capturing special moments, and sharing the stories behind the music.

Many Ways to Support Music and Community

Relationships like this remind us that supporting music takes many forms. It can mean taking the stage, teaching a tune, joining a dance, attending a performance, documenting a moment, or helping provide the resources that allow these experiences to continue.

We’re grateful to NYS Music for their continued support of The Ashokan Center, including their coverage of our Summer and Winter Hoots and their role in sharing the larger story of what happens when people of different ages and backgrounds come together around music.
