It is with great gratitude that we learn, gather, and perform on the ancestral homelands of the Munsee Lenape people. The land that the Ashokan Center sits on was a favored hunting and fishing ground for generations. We pay honor and respect to the ancestors of the Munsee Lenape, past and present. We at the Ashokan Center are committed to building a more inclusive safe space for everyone.
Ashokan’s wigwam was built by Barry Keegan, and is made from all natural and local materials. We incorporate the wigwam into programs and discuss the traditional wisdom and important practices of the Munsee Lenape. Every school program at the Ashokan Center begins with an acknowledgment of the history of Indigenous people in the region.
