This Mother’s Day weekend, families from across the Hudson Valley gathered once again at the Ashokan Center for Día de las Familias 2026 — our fourth annual celebration of music, culture, nature, and community.
Held rain or shine on our Catskills campus, the festival brought together people of all ages for a joyful afternoon filled with live music, dancing, art, food, and outdoor exploration. From children creating crafts and playing field games to families canoeing on the pond and hiking the trails, every corner of Ashokan was alive with energy and connection.
Throughout the day, guests enjoyed an exciting lineup of performances and participatory workshops that celebrated Latin American music and dance traditions. The sounds of Son Jarocho, salsa, Colombian vallenato, and live contemporary Latin music echoed across the grounds as families danced together and experienced traditions rooted in community and joy.
Festival highlights included:
- Kids’ arts & crafts
- Field games and family activities
- Canoeing and nature hikes
- Free food for all attendees
- Jarocho Music & Dance Workshop
- Pulso de Barro live performance and dancing
- Viva Vallenato
- Salsa lessons with Dojo Dance
- Ivan Llanes & Friends
- Live music throughout the day
One of the most meaningful parts of Día de las Familias continues to be its accessibility. Thanks to the generosity of supporters and community partners, the event remained free and welcoming to all, including complimentary food served throughout the afternoon.
More than just a festival, Día de las Familias reflects the Ashokan Center’s mission to build community through music, nature, history, and the arts. Seeing families gather together outdoors — sharing meals, learning dances, exploring the land, and celebrating cultural traditions — is what makes this event so special year after year.
We are deeply grateful to all of the performers, volunteers, activity leaders, vendors, staff members, and families who helped make this year’s celebration such a success. Your energy, creativity, and spirit filled Ashokan with warmth and joy all day long.
We’re already looking forward to welcoming everyone back next year for another unforgettable Día de las Familias at the Ashokan Center.
