Andes Central School students debut original songs

Jun. 12—Elementary school students at Andes Central School debuted original songs about nature during the school’s last Spirit Meet of the year Wednesday, June 12.

Laurie McIntosh, who’s known as Story Laurie, led students on a two-week long songwriting workshop, meeting with classes twice a week.

McIntosh said she picked nature as the theme because the workshop came through an arts and outdoor education outreach grant from the Ashokan Center via the O’Connor Foundation.

“This past year we were fortunate to receive a grant from the A. Lindsay and Olive B. O’Connor Foundation, which focuses on projects directly impacting quality of life in Delaware County,” Ruth Merenda, the director of community outreach at Ashokan Center, said in a text Wednesday. “We were already familiar with Laurie from her performances at some of our on-site public events. It’s been an exciting partnership, supporting her great work with Delhi and Andes students.”
