We’re thrilled to welcome the Jolly Rovers Trail Crew to the Ashokan Center!

During the last week of July, this expert volunteer team is hard at work on one of our most beloved routes: the Deer Trail. They’re clearing brush, removing debris, and improving the trail’s layout and durability using their signature stonework techniques.

Their mission?

“To build and improve trails through stonework, improving community access to the public while preserving natural beauty with an atmosphere of camaraderie and mutual respect.”

The Jolly Rovers are no ordinary trail crew. As a highly trained, all-volunteer corps, they contribute close to $200,000 of labor value each year to public parks across the Hudson Valley. Their work helps ensure that beautiful vistas, waterfalls, and historic sites remain accessible to all—while protecting the landscapes we love.

Here at Ashokan, we’re honored to be one of their sites this summer. Their work on the Deer Trail will enhance safe access for students, hikers, and visitors of all ages, preserving the natural beauty and historic character of our woods.

“We’re a niche in the world of conservation,” they say, “and we have a passion for making unique trail experiences a reality.”

Thank you to the Jolly Rovers for sharing your time, expertise, and heart with our community!
